How to Know if Clothes are Eco-Friendly: A Guide for dk active Customers

As a conscious consumer, you want to make sure that the clothes you wear are not only stylish but also sustainable. At dk active, we believe that eco-friendly active and loungewear is the future of fashion. The team at dk active shared what to look for when shopping for sustainable clothing and share some tips on how to know if your choices are eco-friendly.

  1. Check the Fabric

The first thing to consider when shopping for eco-friendly activewear or clothing is the fabric. Look for fabrics made from natural, organic, or recycled materials, such as GOTS cotton or ECONYL® regenerated nylon. These fabrics are not only sustainable but also tend to be more comfortable and breathable.

  1. Look for Certifications

Many eco-friendly brands will have certifications that verify their sustainable practices. Look for certifications such as GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and OEKO-TEX, which ensure that the clothes are made with eco-friendly materials and are free from harmful chemicals. You can view our full list of factory and fabric certifications on our in-depth sustainability report.

  1. Check the Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process can also have a big impact on how eco-friendly some brands are. Look for companies that use sustainable production methods, such as low water usage and reduced waste practices. Brands that produce their clothes locally also tend to have a smaller carbon footprint (bonus points if you use solar power like our Brisbane factory!).  You can view our full list of factory certifications and learn more about the team that makes your clothes in our sustainability report.

  1. Consider the Packaging

The packaging that your new clothes come in can also be a factor in their impact on Mother Earth. Look for brands that use minimal packaging or packaging made from eco-friendly materials. Some brands even use compostable or biodegradable packaging. Our custom compostable mailers, sticky tape, and shipping labels make home composting easy for our customers while minimizing landfill and post-consumer waste. In addition to being recyclable, our garment swing tags are attached with reusable safety pins (you never know when you'll need a safety pin for a last-minute wardrobe malfunction.).
