Behind The Brand

How dk active was created
A desire and need for ethical fashion
Established in 2017 by Danielle Kay Holden, dk active was born from a desire to bring an ethical and inclusive energy to the activewear industry. As the brand grows, we are learning & evolving continuously to ensure we stay at the top of our game in inclusivity and diversity.
We’re proud to say our fabrics are made from ethical and organic materials, with a transparent supply chain, eco-friendly processes and packaging, committed to respecting animals and most importantly designed for every body shape and current point in your life journey.
“I love the technical side of fabric development and there are endless opportunities in active and leisurewear to explore.”
Each release interacts with the previous, to exemplify the longevity of the dk garment. Pairing high impact, functional and technical garments back with effortless essentials and layering pieces.
“At the beginning, my desire was to create a product range that was really comfortable and promoted confidence to women, regardless of their size. Waistbands that were high enough, crops that were more supportive, and tanks that weren’t too clingy...I didn’t feel that there was something that accommodated all sizes that had a fashionable edge, yet having durability and everyday wearability”
It's all in the details
OUR FABRICS
Slow fashion means high quality garments built to last and this is what you can expect from your dk active.
If you're looking for garments with lower environmental impact, we recommend our garments made from ECONYL® regenerated nylon, organic cotton, bamboo and modal.
Our activewear is made from a carefully selected group of high quality textiles. Our fabrics have an OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, meaning they pass the internationally recognised standard deeming them to be free of any toxic chemicals.
It checks for carcinogens, azo dyes and other chemical limits in accordance with the European REACH standards. And it’s not just our fabrics - where possible we also utilise OEKO-TEX certified threads, buttons and other accessories.
At dk active, your health and happiness is our priority, so we want you to know what you’re putting on your body.

Real sizing for real bodies for real women
For every body and everybody
We design mindfully for different bodies and different activities. Everyone moves a different way so our fabrics and design support your individuality. Our samples are put through many tests and on all body shapes.
"I don’t use standard ‘fit models’ as I want to see how the garments fit and feel on varying shapes and sizes which goes with our philosophy – for everybody and every body. I test garments on our team here at the HQ, my friends and my family (including mum and grandma!)."

Our packaging
We sincerely believe that sometimes true change can be found in the details. Shopping online has (on average) a 60% lower carbon impact than shopping in-store. Nearly 85% of the impact of physical stores comes from the travel time of their customers.
In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, we deliver your dk active via 100% carbon-offset delivery partners.
Our non-toxic and biodegradable satchels are made from plants. Pop them into your compost bin at home with your veggie scraps. Even down to the sticky tape used to seal your special delivery.

"[dk active] wears like second skin. The Australian made activewear label utilises Lycra, organic bamboo and other recycled materials in the creation of tank tops, leggings and shirts. The stretch technology also ensure[s] that they stay in shape even after several uses."

"Stocking up to a size 24, dk is based in Brisbane and is by far the most comfortable of the activewear I tried. The leggings require no peeling and pulling, they fit me like a glove. When I put them through their paces they moved with my body, provided no resistance and didn't go see through - a win!"

Our future
Everyone can do simple things to make a difference, and every little bit really does count - Stella McCartney
Whilst we undertake every effort to ensure we remain environmentally conscious (and transparent about it) we recognise that the fashion industry has a long way to go. We are constantly on the lookout for new technology, practices or textiles that will further our efforts.
We are determined to continue to grow and improve as a company as we work towards achieving diversity, inclusion and equality within our company and our community.

"We are different from many activewear labels, because we understand the everyday woman and the reality of life’s expectations. We understand that not everyone goes to the gym every single day, so we accommodate our range to mix and match to fit it in with everyday life. Whether you’re working out, or hanging out – we’ve got something for you."
